Thank you, Laura! It really was an interesting journey. All the places we visited tell unexpected aspects of a history that is not yet completely over.
Absolutely! Even we Italians do often fully understand the value of some places. Over time, many of them have changed, have been dismissed, dismantled, turned into something else, while others are still at the centre of the political debate. In the most fortunate cases, it was decided to preserve and promote the memory of past events by creating monuments, museums, foundations, archives and shrines. In other cases, it has been possible to reconfigure them adequately in the new context.
As a matter of fact, it seems to me thatItaly in general has preserved a remarkable and controversial memory of its past…
Definitely, Jan. However, the institutionalisation of some memorial places often clashes with the complete lack of any memorial preservation of others. This is because coming to terms with our past is still complex for us. Anyway, what we have seen is only the beginning of a journey through our history and memory…
