Where are we?

We are at the Historical Museum of the Gothic Line

It preserves the documentation related to the Commonwealth offensive and the fights on the Gothic Line that took place in the summer of 1944 against the German defences.

In Casinina during the summer of 1944, the Allied advance northwards clashed with German troops deployed along the Foglia River which resulted in heavy losses for the British Eighth Army. At the same time, thousands of civilians died from mines and bombings. During the fighting, partisan units sought to support the Allied advance with attacks and sabotage, but the Allies would not manage to break through the defensive lines until September 1944.

The Gothic Line History Museum has been telling the story of the 1944 clashes since 1992. Through original objects (weapons, uniforms, and other artefacts, both German and Allied) and film screenings, the fighting of 1944 and the cooperation between the Allies, partisan units and the civilian population are remembered. Outside the museum, military vehicles and the remains of German fortifications can be found.
