Where are we?

We are at the Borgo della pace

This association promotes the culture of peace, conveys values such as justice, legality and solidarity and preserves the memory of the massacre that struck the hamlet of Fragheto on 7 April 1944.

In April 1944, several clashes between occupying troops and partisans in the area took place around Novafeltria, on the Emilian Apennines along the border with Umbria and Marche. Four German soldiers were killed. As an act of retaliation, thirty civilians were murdered by German units in the town of Fragheto di Casteldelci on Good Friday 1944.

A belated trial against three German soldiers behind the massacre was abandoned by the military prosecutor’s office in Verona in 2013 following the death of the main accused.

Novafeltria is now home to the association Borgo della Pace di Fragheto (Fragheto Village of Peace). The association offers its premises and other facilities for seminars, meetings and activities that promote the values of peace, justice and solidarity. The former rectory of Fragheto di Casteldelci is now run by the Borgo della Pace as a meeting venue. Many commemorative plaques placed in the village honour the victims of the massacre.
