Where are we?
Siamo at the Museum of the Italian Liberation Corps
Established in 2018 to commemorate the unit of the Italian Army that was born in Scapoli after the armistice and fought with the Allies until September 1944.
The Italian Liberation Corps was an Army Corps which, under the command of General Utili, fought alongside the Allies – in particular the British V Corps and the Polish II Corps – during operations against the Germans. It was formed on 18th April 1944 at Scapoli, in Molise, then the headquarters of the Allied Command. It operated on the north-eastern slopes of the Mainarde, in the high valleys of the Volturno and Sangro, then in the Adriatic sector as far as Urbino. It took centre stage during the conquests of Monte Marrone, Monte Cavallo, and Filottrano. It was disbanded on 24th September 1944 to allow for the creation of the first Combat Groups of Cremona, Folgore, Friuli and Legnano, infantry divisions of the reconstituted army.
The National Historical Museum of the Italian Liberation Corps in Scapoli, inaugurated in 2018 and named after Aldo Moro, is divided into seven exhibition rooms, each of which is dedicated to the different operations in which the contingent was involved.
