Where are we?

We are at the Rocca delle Caminate

Now a scientific research centre, it was Mussolini’s summer residence and the seat of the first council of ministers of the RSI.

The Rocca fortress, which has origins dating back to the 11th century, was restored in 1927 and used by Mussolini as a summer residence as well as a venue for official meetings. On 28th September 1943, the first meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Social Republic (RSI) was held in the Rocca. The adjacent barracks, where the guardhouse was situated, was used by the Fascists as a place of imprisonment and torture during the Resistance.

In the seventies, it became property of the provincial administration of Forlì and remained unused for many years. The need to protect an asset of great historical and artistic significance clashed with the fear that its symbolic value might be manipulated for political ends

It was only in 2011 that a restoration campaign began designed to facilitate educational and cultural activities. Today, the Rocca houses a Centre for Higher Education and the Technopole of Forlì-Cesena as part of the High Technology Network of the Emilia-Romagna Region.
